The Basin Preserve Information

 The Basin Property Gift

The Nature Conservancy received the 1910 acre parcel known as the Basin from an anonymous donor who asked The Nature Conservancy to give 60 acres to the Town of Phippsburg for municipal purposes.  The Nature Conservancy does have a Mission Statement and therefore have parcels they are unwilling to part with due to the ecological significance of certain features. It is important to remember no land can be accepted by the Town of Phippsburg without Town Meeting approval.

The citizens attending the basin Property Public Hearing on January 26th were in favor of the property transfer as outlined in the Town Lands Management Committee's plan (40 acres by the mill dam, 20 acres next to the school and Hatch Road).
A special town meeting will be held during the summer of 2011 to accept the property.

Draft Recommendation

Members of the Town Lands Management Committee

Anna Varian, Chair (389-2068, Tip Newell (389-9958),  Doug Alexander (443-3114), Craig Chapin (443-5669), Bob Cummings (443-2925), Ed Hunt (389-2577), Jason Marco (522-4987)
