Comprehensive Plan

Dear People of Phippsburg,

The Town of Phippsburg, through many countless volunteers, committees, surveys, and village meetings, is engaged in the process to update the comprehensive plan. We are required, by the State of Maine, to update the plan every ten years. The last comprehensive plan was submitted to the State for approval in 1991.  The comprehensive plan gives the Town the chance to encourage change and manage growth in the direction it chooses rather than dealing with the problems that unplanned change can cause.  This is important because the current census places Phippsburg as the third fastest growing community in Sagadahoc County.

We are going to great lengths to be sure to know what everyone thinks.  For instance, at the village meetings people have shared different opinions on a variety of subjects and we received over 30% of the surveys back that were sent out.  However, three common themes have emerged.  Keep Phippsburg rural. Protect the remaining open space so that it stays open and manage growth to prevent sprawl.  To do this we need your input, because there is no point in having a plan that does not reflect the will of the Town.
