Tae Kwon Do test held on Saturday April 19th
 at Lyndon Tree Meeting house.

Tae Kwon Do – Chung Do Kwan
Recreation Program

Tae Kwon Do – Chung Do Kwan is a traditional Korean Martial Art. The classes meet normally on Wednesdays at this Phippsburg School from 3-5p.m, and on Saturday’s times announced. This class is open to all interested youth from 4th-8th grades.   Students must be well disciplined and behaved.  The classes are instructed by John Skroski  (red belt) and the program is overseen by his instructor Sabumnim Jeff Vanoudenhove a 4th Dan Black Belt from Chicopee, MA. This class stresses traditional Tae Kwon Do including emphasis put on learning of all 16 Basics (Keecho) and  classic (hyungs)  forms, 3 steps, 1 steps, choke defenses, and limited contact sparring( no pads).  There are currently 15 students enrolled in the program with three yellow belts, three green belts, and eight white belts. Sabumnim Vanoudenhove travels to Phippsburg to conduct the testings for all belt advancements when appropriate. The average students could spend a year to two years of training before advancing from white to yellow belt depending on the amount of classes they attend and effort they show.  Tests for rank above yellow belts include board breaking as a requirement. Opportunities to travel to Massachusetts and train with Sabumnin in his class are also available.  If you are interested in attending the program you can contact John Skroski at  443-4492 or 841-9548. The current cost is $20.00 for a three month session. Watch the school newsletter and Phippsburg Recreation news letter for more information on the program.
